The Use of Social Media for Teaching and Learning by Faculty Members of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Chiang Mai Rajabhat University in the Epidemic Situation of the Coronavirus Disease 2019

Abstract

The objectives of this research were 1) to study the behavior of using social media for teaching in the situation of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 epidemic and 2) to study the problems of using social media for teaching during the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 of the teachers, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Chiang Mai Rajabhat University. A structured questionnaire was developed for data collection. The data was analyzed by employing frequency, percentage, mean ( ), and standard deviation (S.D.). The respondents of the survey were 67.20% of female and 32.80% of male. The result found that 46.30% of respondents used of social media in teaching every day. The majority of social media used was Facebook (85.07%) and YouTube (65.67%). The platform was widely used by teachers was Microsoft Teams (88.06%) and Zoom (56.72%). The most of teachers used live platform for online teaching (83.60%) and mixed teaching both live and video recording (6.40%) respectively. The using social media for teaching and learning of teachers was at the highest level ( x̅ = 4.24). Considering each aspect, it was found that planning ( x̅ = 4.42), Teaching ( x̅ = 4.26), and teaching methods and activities ( x̅ = 4.24). The learning measurement and evaluation was at high level (x̅ = 4.04)  As for the problems in using social media in teaching and learning situations of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 epidemic, it was found overall at a high level ( x̅ = 3.64). The problems encountered include: students do not have equipment ready to study and unstable internet network signals.
